Blake Brains Them At The Plex.
Brad Blake made a statement last Saturday at the Perth Motorplex……. I’M BACK.
He may be a former National and Kwinana track champion but Blake showed he has lost nothing at the second meeting of the season here in Perth. Taking on 16 other late models, Blake had his biggest battles with current Australia # 1 Brad Ludlow (DiCandilo Steel City/E.I.M.S. Electrical #1….) all night.
In every one of the three races held on the night it was slide job after slide job as these two champions never gave each other an inch. It was remarkable racing between the two, keeping the good crowd at the Motorplex entertained all night.
Blake driving his Blake Auto Centre/Tag Trailers #0….had a shocking night by his own high standards at the opening meeting down at the Kwinana Beach venue, and was over the moon with the handling of their new beast second time out. “With Noeleen being crook, dad has been up in Perth at the hospital a fair bit, and the new business has taken up a lot of time too, but we put our head down and ass up in the workshop the last couple of weeks and got a nice set up happening.”
It only took Blake a couple of laps too settle down, but from there he looked to be on rails all night as father Allan served him up a fantastic handling car from the opening race. “It’s all about throttle control once you get out in the lead running through the holes and in the slick. I can tell you the gods were smiling on me tonight” he chuckled at the end of the night.
Others to impress on the night included Warren Oldfield (DVF Plumbing & Gas/Carahaul #15….),youngster Jay Cardy in his BBT Steel/T.L. Dozing #52…..and TVR racer Craig Vosbergen (Worldwide Construction Machinery/Valvoline #8 Rocket.)
Oldfield, who took up the challenge to our front runners in the two opening stanzas, and looked set to do the same during the third, to only suffer rear suspension damage on his car and leaving him trailing along the tail of the field to gain valuable points in the track championship.
Twenty one year old Cardy started to show glimpses of form that took him to the top of the AMCA division here in W.A. Obviously the off season trip to the USA to work with the WoO Late Model team of Clint Smith is starting to pay dividends for this talented young racer.
Vosbergen started off slowly, but improved as the night wore on and he finished the night with a fine third overall in points.
It was superb racing all evening by the Late Models, except for a multi car crash in race one that saw the likes of Ben Ludlow (DiCandilo Steel City/Castrol #2….) and the promising Bunbury based racer Jason Moyle (Mortgage Force/Moyle Engines #6…..) having too park up their machines for the rest of the evening.
The track it self lent to good racing, and the track curators deserve a huge pat on the back for the racing surface they served up after two nights of racing, and the huge amount of rain experienced in Perth during the week. “I liked the track tonight I gotta be honest” said winner Blake. “It wasn’t hard on tyres, it was driver friendly and you could set the car up at the start of the night and not make many changes during the rest of the evening.”
The late Models return to action at the Perth Motorplex in two weeks time for two nights of action, November 21 & 22, in support of the Wanless World Series Sprintcars.
