East Coast Pair Keen to Race in the LMN.
It may not be their first visit to the Perth Motorplex, but New South Wales racers Nathan Disney and Darryl Grimson are as keen as mustard to be returning to race in this weekends Late Model Nationals.
It’s a long haul for both these drivers to make it over to Western Australia for this event, but both love the idea of competing here. “It’s a good track to race at, and I cant wait to race against the likes of Doug Drown and Jeep Van Wormer, and the rest of the West Aussies” said the quietly spoken Grimson this week.
Fellow ELMA competitor Disney was as excited about arriving here as well. “Dad (Bev) is on the road as we speak heading to WA in our truck with our car and towing the Barry Kelleher car as well. I get the easy bit and fly over on Thursday. I just love coming to WA as the hospitality we get from the people over in the west is second to none. I love the track, the fans, the way the event is marketed and I have some very loyal sponsors who make it all possible so it’s great to be heading over there again. But it’s also great to repay the likes of Blakey, the Oldfield’s and the Ludlow’s for the support they showed us by running at The Gold Cup”
Unfortunately for the pair they both finished on the infield during the 2008 version of this event, and you can be assured that they will be trying to reverse those results and are not just coming to WA to make up the numbers. Grimson is confident he can have some say in the results after a confidence building win at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway last weekend.
“We have had our share of bad luck this season, but our Warrior Pontiac GTO is running really well at the moment, and I’m going to try and be at the pointy end of the field when it’s all run and won. I’m hoping it’s a good show and we come through the heats unscathed and who knows what can happen from there. It’s exciting to be racing against the likes of Van Wormer, who I’ve seen on DVD and can’t wait for the experience of racing against him.”
Disney has been down a bit in recent weeks but assures us that he is ready and willing to have a red hot go over the two nights. “We had a good run up until the Gold Cup, but I’ve got a good car beneath me and the driver is feeling good about the Nationals weekend. Doug and Jeep are no slouches but I’m confident I can do well having had some experience at Kwinana before.”
Both have shown to be fast when they have visited WA in the past no matter what track they have raced at, but both appreciate the wide open high banks of Kwinana, that suits the style of racing these high horsepower beasts. Its only three days till all hell breaks loose so make sure you are ready for the mind blowing Late Models this Friday and Saturday night.
