Going topless at Sydney Speedway!
NSW Late Model racers are going topless at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway (NSW) Saturday May 14.
But before everyone gets too excited, or shocked (!), it’s the cars that will be racing topless, not the drivers.
The roof panels on the thundering V8 sedans will be removed, giving the public a clear view of the drivers at the wheel.
“Tyrepower Sydney Speedway has been extremely supportive of Late Model Racing this season, and after securing an additional date on the schedule (May 14) we wanted to do something special to end the season on a high” said Ross Nicastri from NSW Late Models.
“The idea was floated about running topless, so we decided to go ahead with the format, as it’s something you don’t see the division do too often”.
“Topless Late Model racing has been conducted in the USA for some time, with several high dollar races listed. Late Models have competed topless at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway a number of seasons ago, so it’s not like it’s something radical or new, but it will certainly be a fun way to conclude our race schedule” Nicastri said.
NSW Late Models have enjoyed a strong season at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway with events such as the United Acreage Marketing Gold Cup and Tyrepower Sydney Speedway Grand National attracting strong fields, and showcasing the division to the public. With the 2012 Australian title to be decided at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway in late January, next season is already looking very promising for the division.
There is plenty of talk about new teams joining the fray, and a number of racers returning, which can only auger well for the future of Late Models in NSW and across the nation.
