It will be a welcome return to the Kalgoorlie International Speedway for Late Model racers on Saturday night as they contest the West Australian State Title, that doubles as Round 4 of the R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt Series.
Kalgoorlie is Australia’s gold capital, and has one of the state’s premier speedway facilities, which is well suited to the high speeds of the thundering V8 sedans.
The championship has attracted 18 nominations, including nine time winner Brad Blake, and the current State Champion Craig Vosbergen.
Vosbergen is still on a high from winning the last round of the R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt Series at Kwinana last weekend, and is confident he is 100 percent ready to defend his title. He also plans on staying at the top of the Pro Dirt Points ladder.
The Oldfield brothers, Jamie and Warren, who between them have won many races in various divisions, have not been able to secure a Late Model title yet, and are hoping 2011 is their year. Both have a victory in the first two rounds of the current R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt series, so the odds are in their favour of being on the podium.
Other top line competitors like Jay Cardy, and Brad and Ben Ludlow, have been very consistent during the course of the season, and their teams’ preparation is second to none. Race fans can expect them to make their presence felt as the chequered flag beckons.
With the Late Model division growing there are a few up and coming drivers who will be in with a chance of a podium finish, like last year’s third place getter Jason Moyle of Bunbury, Jeremy Hale, Peter Seaton, and Koran Atkinson.
The honour of being crowned state champion is one of the highlights of any driver’s career, and there are many that are capable of standing on the top step of the podium.
This will be speedway racing at its finest, where the best in the west will race wheel to wheel to claim glory in one of the most important events on the LMRA Schedule.
