Time to Ruuuuuumbllllle…….. To most people Easter is about chocolate eggs, hot cross buns and spending some quiet time with your family. WRONG!!!! If you are a speedway fan it’s all about hitting the open road heading to one of the many two night shows here on the west coast and one of the biggest will be the Rumble on the River at the Margaret River Speedway. (Oh and the chocolate eggs, hot cross buns and spending time with your family.) The Late Models hit the tight little track and going on what has happened in the past at this brilliant little circuit you can expect it to once again be one hell of a meeting. This will be the fourth running of the event and it has always proved to put on some of the best side by side sedan racing seen during the summer and there is no reason why this meeting will be any different. This meeting has grown in stature over the years and has become a hard sought after crown to win. Plenty of fans are once again expected to grace the track so plan to get there early to save your self a prime viewing spot. There have only been two previous winners in Craig Vosbergen and Brad Blake and of those two only Blake will be making an appearance this weekend, but looking at the nomination list he wont have it his own way:- 0 Brad Blake Jamie Oldfield has been the one to watch over the last month and is the current points leader by a mere eight points and certainly didn’t need the problems that arose just this past Wednesday. At the Motorplex for a practice session to give Speedcar pilot Scott Glazebrook some laps before a proposed debut in the big car division, a mechanical malfunction sent the #51 Ultra Tune Morley machine in to the fence hard, damaging the chassis to a point beyond repair. Talking to Oldfield by phone you could hear the dejection in his voice but he remained positive. “Its one of those things but I’m not going to go down without a fight. We will be putting all my running gear in to my brother Jason’s Warrior chassis and even though I’ve never driven a Warrior before I have to give the Pro Dirt Series Title my best shot.” Warren Oldfield might feel sorry for Jamie at the moment, but come race day he will be out there to try his best to take out the win. ‘Stumpy’ as he is affectionately known as is more than keen for Jamie to run second all night, as long as it’s him in front. Blake has had a season he would rather forget, but for most other racers it would still be considered a brilliant year. The problem is Blake sets his standards very high and anything less than a win is considered a failure. He has performed well at Margaret River in the past and will be at the pointy end of the field come the end of the weekend. And the rest of the field could throw a spanner in the works to these three as well. Duncombe, Cardy, Halliday and local Watt are all a chance and the two night affair will be a test of both man and machinery. As you can see it’s a quality field and the action will be red hot, so if you like your Easter weekend loud and with plenty of action the place to be is in Margaret River this Saturday and Sunday nights.
