Veronica Mccann - West Australian Dirt Late Model Title Rundown

The new West Australian Dirt Late Model Champion was crowned on Saturday night at Northam Speedway (congratulations to Scott Mcpherson) and although things didn’t quite turn out in the final for Veronica, progress was made.

A rear of field draw was the starting point for Veronica’s first qualifying heat action of the night. McCann crossed the line in fifth place after a steady race on her part as she came to grips with the one of a kind (in Australia) Intimidator which was one meeting old in Veronica’s hands.

The number 50 Intimidator took up position two for the sixth heat of the night, Veronica’s second qualifying heat for the evening. After a couple of re-starts Veronica took full advantage of a third and final start and quickly placed herself in the lead. On a hard slick surface it was Veronica’s smooth throttle control that earned her the chequers by more than half a lap over the next competitor.

“I needed that win! This Intimidator takes a completely different driving style to the 01 car that I have been racing so far this season. This is certainly the confidence booster I wanted in this new car”.

Due to time restrictions, both the A and B dash were cancelled. For the final, McCann’s points placed her out of position seven in the tough field for the main event. The night was over not long after the green flag fell after another competitor came in contact with Veronica, leaving her with a cut down tyre and buckled rim, unable to continue the race McCann watched the 30 lap A Main from the infield.

“It is without a doubt frustrating being crashed out. I know that this car has a lot of potential and with the Australian Title this coming week those laps out there in the final were very important for me”.

“At the end of the day, it was minimal damage, just enough to end my night early. On the positive side of things I am defiantly happy with the progress I have made in this new car in preperation for the Australian Title.”
