BLAKE EXPLODES TO A FIRECRACKER OF A WIN

Brad Blake showed all his class and guile to dominate the 50 lap Avon Valley Firecracker 50 at Northam Motorsports Park last Saturday Night. The “O Show” as he is most commonly known was very rarely challenged in a feature race that was plagued by constant stoppages as the field came to grips with a track that was getting very slick.

The Format for the night saw 4 x 12 lap heats with the top 6 point scorers having to front for a 6 lap dash to determine the top six starting positions for the all important 50 lap feature. The Speedway Racing News heat races were hotly contested by all of the 15 cars that turned up. “The Sanatarium Kid” Mark Duncombe came out victorious in heat 1, followed by “The Rocket Man” Craig Vosbergen picking up the win in heat 2 while the cagey veteran “Shorty” Ben Ludlow proved to strong in heat 3 & Heat 4 saw “The 0 Show” Brad Blake start to show his dominance for the evening in the Mintec Communications Rocket as he powered away to an easy victory.

The all important Power Productions dash saw a very ordinary start to which Blake jumped around the outside of Vosbergen and from there went onto give a driving clinic to the rest of the field as he lap after lap hit his marks and kept his left rear tire in the moisture right down on the bottom of the track. Blake came home ahead of Duncombe, Vosbergen, Jason Oldfield, Rob MacGregor and Ludlow .

Mind games were taking place as everyone was waiting for the QFS Australia 50 lap feature, with track conditions changing due to a major track grade. and the longest race of the season on line for the Dirt Late Models this 50 lapper was sure to be a firecracker. Tire choice was going to be the vital decision teams would have to make prior to entering the track.

As the green flag dropped Blake dropped straight to the bottom to his favored line whilst many drivers seemed to forget that the race was over 50 laps and went very hard to try and make as many positions as possible. Just as Blake opened up a healthy lead the yellow lights would come on time and time again.

Once the race went green for any length of time Blake would skip away until he hit very heavy traffic in front of him. With many of the drivers racing for position and going sometimes two and three wide, Blake had to be patient but this allowed Jason Oldfield in the National Tires Warrior to close to within a car length or two until he spun to avoid a crash. Blake then had a clear track ahead of him and cruised to a big win ahead of the fast finishing Ludlow , Kevin Bell and Clint Noakes.
