WA Dirt Late Models At An All Time High!

The Kart World Belmont Pro Dirt Series Firecracker 50 at Northam Motorsports Park this Saturday promises to be a fantastic spectacle. The first of many blue ribbon events on the WA Dirt Late Model calendar this season, the event has attracted a strong field. The depth of Dirt Late Model Racing in WA this season has been exceptional, with big fields, and wheel to wheel racing.

Last weekends Perth Motorplex event had 27 cars on the nomination list only to lose a few to minor mechanical dramas prior to the nights racing.

With the Perth Motorplex format as it is the Dirt Late Models have to run 3 x 12 lap heats with all cars in each heat, so as you can imagine having 20+ Dirt Late Models in one race can be very entertaining.

Last weekends stand out was” The Rocket Man” Craig Vosbergen who continued the blistering form that he had last season, winning Heats 1 and 3 in style.

Other stand outs include second year driver Warren Oldfield, who continues to impress and run hard with the lead bunch, and “Shorty” Ben Ludlow who is finding some of the form that won him the Motorplex title 2 years ago, and is once again looking toward a consistent season.

A very notable mention last weekend goes to Wayne Coleman from Albany. Being his first night out in 2007/08 he was forced to run from the back, starting the first heat in 22nd and travelling through to finish 6th, and finishing heat two in 4th. This from a guy in only his third outing in a Dirt Late Model!

The only issues of the nights racing were a few drivers deciding to race the lead bunch when they were being lapped. Not a nice thing to have happen to you when you have worked hard to get into the lead group and come up on slower cars to have those cars try and continue to race you. Drivers, hold your line and let the leaders through please.

This weekends Firecracker 50 is one of the longest races of the season with the final being over 50 laps. Last years race was won by “The 0 Show” Brad Blake and he would be the first to tell you he hasn’t got off to the season he had hoped for so far, but when people underestimate Brad he usually comes out fighting.
