Watch Out Manjimup, The LMRA Are Comin’ To Town
That’s right Manjimup; the drivers of the LMRA are ready to hit the big, unique dirt circuit just out of town with a vengeance as they start the New Year ready to tackle one of the fastest tracks in the south west of Western Australia.
The racing so far this 2010/11 summer season has been some of the most spectacular every seen on the R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt Series, and all of the teams cant wait to hit this very special dirt oval.
Especially visiting New South Welshman Ross Nicastri.
Speaking to Nicastri after his run at Bunbury was quite an eye opener. No sour grapes about finishing the final on the infield with a broken radiator but a positive outlook towards running at Manjimup for the first time.
“I am looking forward to it. Everybody’s telling me what an awesome racetrack it is, really quick, which is what I like” he said as he surveyed his Franks Auto Parts/Bill Martin Dyno Tune #01 Rocket owned by LMRA CEO Allan Blake.
For Nicastri his ‘vintage’ means he has seen how much things have changed over the years since he last races here in the Grand National division in the west over twenty years ago, when he was just a young fella. “The competition over here is fantastic and it’s great to come here and race against that good competition. There’s a bunch of good cars here, not just one or two, it’s excellent.”
And it’s that competition that he will be up against again come this Sunday as a field of twenty three cars have nominated for this race. Most of the field that ran at Bunbury return for action for the Manjimup round of the Pro Dirt Series. For those we have lost some good ones return with the likes of Albany’s Wayne Coleman, Ian Birt and former national champion Ryan Halliday set for a run in the family owned #99 GRT.
Add to this the last time out winner Brad Blake, one of the USA’s finest in Jeep Van Wormer, current R2C points leader Craig Vosbergen and the driver with the most wins this summer in Brad Ludlow, it all bodes well for one hell of a show.
But as the late night adverts on television say –“Wait there’s more!”
Matt Goodlad continues to impress and would love to have another R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt Series win against his name, as would multiple Motorplex champion Jay Cardy who cant be that far from taking a win either. Mick Hamon, the Noakes Brothers Clint and Matt plus the likes of Jamie Oldfield, Mark Matthews and Lee Watt must all be considered at having a fair chance of taking out a victory too.
Potentially this meeting will be one of the best for the summer as the Late Models have proven time and time again how well suited the Manjimup track is to these big bodied sedans. Last years two big shows were nothing short of brilliant and this coming weekend has all the same ingredients to be just as good too.
So if you’re a sedan fan head on down to one of the best tracks this state has to offer as the LMRA unleash themselves on one of their favourite circuits this Sunday night.
