Late Model Coal Miner 35 Set To Be A Big One

This weekend sees the inaugural running of the Coal Miner 35 at the Collie Speedway and is looking likely to be one of the biggest events of the year for the thundering Late Model division here in Western Australia.

So far this season the Collie club has hosted some brilliant race meetings including the Laurie Matthews Memorial for Speedcars and The Southern Thunder Series for Sprintcars and this one looks to be another success for the club. This monster meeting will culminate in a gut wrenching thirty five lap finale and the entry list looks to be a good one.

With at least twenty plus nominations the field will be one of not just quantity but of quality as well. All the established names are included, with the likes of Jamie and Warren Oldfield, Brad Blake, Ryan Halliday, Jay Cardy, Ben and Brad Ludlow and Australia #2 veteran Bert Vosbergen just to name a few of the drivers who will go in as favorites.

Add to this the likes of Matt Goodlad, Jac Dolmans, Michael Holmes, Lee Watt  and Jason Moyle who could upset the top runners and as you can see there are plenty of names who could make an impression or even take out the win.

To add some spice to the evening youngster Kye Blight has nominated to make his debut in the second of the Blake cars and has shown plenty of potential in other sedan divisions in recent times. He moves from sedans with about 200 horsepower to these fire belching 800+ horsepower machines and if he can adapt as well to these beasts just as well as he has to other forms of speedway he could make a real impression this weekend.

The tight corners and long straights of the Collie circuit will suit these big bodied sedans perfectly as the competitors get to squeeze every single bit of horsepower out of their 430ci motors down those long straights. You can expect the racing to be fast and close, just as the demonstration laps during the recent STS Sprintcar round by the Oldfield’s, Duncombe and Moyle showed.

Over the course of the 2009/10 summer season the Late Models have shown that when it comes to big shows like this anybody can pop up for the win. The country meetings seem to bring out the best in the drivers as they enjoy the atmosphere provided by the local clubs. This has been one of the most open seasons with plenty of different winners, so only a brave man would make a tip as to who could win this one.

Late Models Shine at the Country rounds for the Racing Tyres Pro Dirt series Rounds, don’t you be the one to miss this exciting event at Collie Speedway this Saturday Night.
